Rob's Birthday: THE BEST AUSTIN, TX RESTAURANTS

A quick trip with some of our FAVORITE restaurants in Austin, Texas and why we love them!

Since we moved to Texas, Austin has been one of our go-to vacation spots because of the endless amounts of delicious restaurants just 3 hours away! This trip was extra special since we celebrated Rob's birthday and we tried a few new restaurants that we wanted to share! THEY DID NOT DISAPPOINT!

When looking for new restaurants to try, we first look at the reviews and pictures and then check if the restaurant is dietary-restriction friendly. It's a plus if they don't use inflammatory oils and use organic and/or local foods, but we continue to believe in living a BALANCED LIFESTYLE so we try and enjoy ourselves without stressing over every ingredient.

In this blog we will be sharing our 3-day food itinerary with some suggested items to order!

DAY 1:

Honest Mary's:

Rob and I love fast, casual, and nourishing options during vacation! Honest Mary’s menu has a handful of flavorful pre-made bowls or you can build your own! They also have an Almond Butter Cookie with Maldon Salt with CLEAN INGREDIENTS (and gluten-free) to fully complete your meal!  Address: 9828 Great Hills Trl Suite 300, Austin, TX 78759

Joann's Fine Foods:

We are still dreaming about this Mexican restaurant because of their flour and corn tortillas that are made in-house DAILY! DO NOT sleep on the Joann’s Queso or Wood Grilled Fajitas with Skirt Steak! This restaurant is conveniently located on S Congress and you can sit outside if the weather permits!  Address: 1224 S Congress Ave, Austin, TX 78704

Gati:

It’s extremely important that Rob and I have a go-to ice cream spot each vacation. We HIGHLY recommend Gati because all their ice cream is vegan and gluten-free, made with a coconut milk base. They also sell some delectable gluten-free pastries, but they sell out quick!  Address: 1512 Holly St, Austin, TX 78702

DAY 2:

Bird Bird Biscuit:

Whenever we are in Austin, we go here AT LEAST once. Rob requests to eat it every breakfast AND to take extra sandwiches home with us on our way back to Dallas. The biscuit sandwiches are HEAVENLY and they even have a gluten-free biscuit option! Our three favorites to order are the Bird Bird Bacon, Lovely Day, and Queen Beak! Address: 1401 W Koenig Ln, Austin, TX 78756

ZIKI:

ZIKI is a Greek and Mexican fusion that prioritizes sourcing high-quality ingredients! They do not cook with seed oils, canola oils, vegetable oils, and are soy-free; they prepare their food primarily with grass-fed butter! The Frappe with grass-fed whole milk was OUT OF THIS WORLD!  Address: 706 N Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX 78703

Jeffrey's:

For Rob’s birthday dinner, we wanted a BIG piece of steak to share! All of Jeffrey’s steaks are grilled and roasted over local live oak and finished in a 1200-degree broiler. We ordered the 26oz Bone-In Ribeye (dry-aged 32 days) sourced from the Beeman Family Ranch in Yoakum, Texas and we are still drooling over it! We paired this steak with a side of the Crispy Brussel Sprouts and Yukon Gold Pommes Puree. Address: 1204 W Lynn St, Austin, TX 78703

DAY 3:

Paperboy:

This was our second time going to Paperboy because we are OBSESSED with their Chicken & Biscuit breakfast! The fried chicken is cooked to perfection and is topped with a spicy honey! Pro tip: get a side of the Cheddar Hashbrown! Address: 1203 E 11th St, Austin, TX 78702

Odd Duck:

This restaurant had been on our “to-try” list for a few years and we finally went! We love that they support local food of the community and that their menu changes seasonally. This is a tapas-style dinner, which is awesome so you can try a little bit of everything! All their drinks and dishes are very flavorful and creative – our favorites were the Draft Watermelon Fresca, Cast Iron Cheddar Cornbread, and Green Chili Pork Shoulder!  Address: 1201 S. Lamar Blvd., Austin, TX 78704

We still have a grocery list of restaurants we want to try in Austin, but would go back to all of these places in a heartbeat! Until next time, we will be dreaming of all the delicious food we had on this Austin birthday trip!
